We are so excited to share with you this exciting Iyengar Yoga Retreat in Spain!
Relax and unwind with our favourite iyengar yoga teacher in Cornwall Gillian. This will be a beautiful retreat in the lovely region of Andalucia with experienced yoga teacher Gilliann from Cornwall.
Founder Helen has been going to Gillian’s drop in yoga classes in Penzance Cornwall for years and can highly recommend Gillian as an inspiring teacher.
” I see Gillian’s class as a reset each week and come out feeling lighter, up-lifted and ready to take on the world with a smile on my face.”
So i think this retreat will be great for anyone looking to unwind, relax and feel rejuvenated, while gaining knowledge of yoga and looking deeper into the iyengar practice. There is a variety of accommodation available in the spacious villa which has its own private pool, terraces and extensive grounds, all of which will be for the sole use of the yoga group. Delicious vegetarian food—daily breakfast and 4 dinners—will be provided by Jenni Thomas-Davey (Peppercorn Kitchen in Perranuthnoe).
The nearest airports are Jerez de la Frontera, approximately 40 minutes away, Seville airport, 2 hours and Málaga three hours. For guests arriving by train into Cádiz, taxis can be arranged to reach El Alboroque (approximately 15 minutes drive away).
The villa, “El Alboroque” is situated about 20 minutes outside Cádiz, near the seaside town of Conil. It is set within its own grounds, a very tranquil setting with a private swimming pool, terraces and bikes for our use. A cycle ride to the beach would take only 15 minutes and to Conil itself 20 minutes.
Getting to “El Alboroque” from the UK.
The nearest airports are Jerez de la Frontera, approximately 40 minutes away, Seville 1.5 hours, Faro (Portugal) 2.5 hours, Gibraltar, 1.5 hours and Málaga less than 3 hours. From the airports to “El Alboroque” travel by car or bus would be necessary. We can arrange taxis from Cádiz if required.
The villa is the family home of Belen González Dorao. Belen and her family lived in Penzance for a couple of years from 2015 and is known to some of us. She is the source of valuable knowledge of the local and surrounding areas and can help arrange visits.
Students arriving at “El Alboroque” will be welcomed by Gillian and Jenni. Teas, coffees and juices are freely available at all times. Daily breakfasts will include fresh fruit, yoghurts, muesli, granola, fresh bread and a selection of local preserves and honey. Four vegetarian evening meals (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday) are included in the overall price. Other evening meals and packed lunches can be provided by arrangement. Vegan and/or gluten-free dietary requirements can also be met, with prior notification.
Cádiz is generally considered to be the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in Europe, founded as Gadir by the Phoenicians in about 1100 BC. Now well into its fourth millennium, the ancient centre, surrounded almost entirely by water, is a romantic jumble of sinuous streets where Atlantic waves crash against eroded sea walls, salty beaches teem with sun-worshippers, and cheerful taverns echo with the sounds of cawing gulls and frying fish.
Jerez de la Frontera
Usually called Jerez, is a city in southern Spain’s Andalusia region. Its old quarter surrounds the Alcázar de Jerez, a Moorish fortress founded in the 11th century. The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art is a famed riding school with horse shows and a carriage museum. The city is also known for flamenco music and sherry production in the so-called Sherry Triangle lying to the west.
Conil de la Frontera
Conil is a town on the Atlantic coast in the southern part of Spain, with around 22,000 inhabitants.
It has six beaches: Playa La Fontanilla, Playa El Roqueo (with a 1936 Civil War bunker), Playa Fuente del Gallo, Playa Punta Lejos, Playa Cala del Aceite and Playa los Bateles. Playa los Bateles is the longest and the most popular in the summer. Conil de la Frontera is primarily a vacation town and most of the tourists are Spanish.
